Maria’s relationship with Bienvenidos began more than 20 years ago. At the time, she lived nearby and happened to notice the food bank from the street.
What she found was a welcoming place that could help her stretch her food budget and make sure she had enough for herself and her family. She began visiting regularly and also came to appreciate that Bienvenidos offered personal care items in addition to groceries.
Today, Maria is living on a fixed income. With the cost of everyday necessities continuing to rise, the support she receives from Bienvenidos has become even more important.
She no longer lives in the neighborhood, but that hasn’t stopped her from coming. Maria now takes three buses to reach Bienvenidos, often with her cart in tow, and also visits the mobile food distribution on Colfax.
After more than two decades, she still believes the trip is worth it.
